The Senior Accountant will oversee key accounting functions, support financial reporting, and ensure compliance with insurance-industry regulatory requirements. This role is ideal for someone with strong technical accounting skills, experience in insurance or financial services, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead general ledger activities including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
- Oversee month-end and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
- Prepare statutory financial statements and support regulatory filings specific to the insurance industry.
- Review and reconcile premium, claims, reinsurance, and commission accounts.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling.
- Support audits (internal, external, and regulatory) by preparing schedules and responding to inquiries.
- Analyze financial results and provide insights to leadership to support decision-making.
- Maintain and improve internal controls and accounting procedures.
- Collaborate with underwriting, claims, actuarial, and operations teams to ensure financial accuracy.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 4-7 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in insurance, financial services, or a regulated industry.
- Strong understanding of GAAP; familiarity with statutory accounting principles (SAP) is a plus.
- Experience with ERP/accounting systems (Oracle, NetSuite, SAP, or similar).
- Advanced Excel skills (PivotTables, VLOOKUP, formulas).
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
Preferred
- CPA or CPA-eligible strongly preferred.
- Experience with insurance accounting areas such as premiums, claims, or reinsurance.
- Knowledge of regulatory agencies and reporting (NAIC, DOI).
